Kennedy & Erin!

Kennedy turned the BIG 5 recently and she’s enjoying it!

As a lifestyle photographer I have an absolute blast photographing kids, especially when they  have fun during the shoot…. and Miss Kennedy, well she’s one of those fun kids!  I’m usually the one trying to get kids to laugh, but this girl had me laughing.  Hysterically!   And I know where she gets it from, no other than her mom Erin!  Thanks you two for your great smiles!  Just Beautiful!

Hsieh Family: Hawaii 2010

While we were in Hawaii a few weeks ago, we had our annual family photoshoot with ROCKSTAR photographer Alex Rapada!  We had so much fun on our shoot, we even jumped in the ocean and showed Jauden how to surf!   More photos coming soon…

Thomas & Friends

Now that Jayden is 2 1/2,  he’s developing little hobbies.  At the moment , it’s all about Thomas & Friends!  Funny as it is, I have to admit, I’m a little into it too.  The trains, the TV show, and the books are really fun, plus educational.  I’m pretty impressed on how Jayden knows all the engines names and how he’s learning how trains operate.  In fact, I can’t wait to take him to see Thomas & Friends live this November at the Orange Empire Railway Perris, CA.

Here are a few photos I took at my house (made a little natural light studio) for the day…

So, he figured out on his own how to hold up two fingers!

June 23, 2010 - 2:18 pm Jen - He's adorable. Two is a great age!

June 23, 2010 - 2:21 pm Lisa V - Wow, what a cutie! Love his hair and his cute smile. You get great natural light? What camera lens and camera did you use for these. I need more natural lighting experience when I shoot indoors.

Dear Dad,

I thank you for so many reasons from THEE bottom of my heart.  You have been a “Father” all my life, and I can’t even begin nor end the list of how you are there for me til this day.  When I was a kid you never once missed a tennis match, a softball game, or missed a tear to wipe away.  And as an adult, you’ve helped me reach all my goals in life. You’ve always been my cheerleader (minus the pom poms).  In fact, you’re still cheering me on for all the continuous dreams I endeavor.  It’s priceless what you give.  Ahem, and if you haven’t noticed, I’ve followed all of your foot steps, right? Everything from sports, politics, photography, to being a giver.  Gee, I am somehow turning into you (hopefully not the balding part)…  I’m joking. NOT!  And one more thing, not only are you a great father, but I can’t begin to tell you what a fantastic grandfather you are.  However, I am sure you already know that, just by the way Jayden lights up when he sees you!  Dad, you ROCK! And oh-yeah, Happy Fathers Day! I love you…

MWAC (MOMS WITH A CAMERA)

I recently joined a group through Meetup.com called MWAC (Moms With A Camera) and it’ s a great group of amateur and professional “mom” photographers.  As of now, we have 22 members in the group.  It’s a mixture of  play-dates and photography workshops.  I love it, and I am so excited to get to know all the members and their kiddos!

One of the members Jenny Stafford (founder of Red Loft Studios) did a workshop for the group and we were all thrilled to have her not only a member, but a great mentor.  Her successful business (studios both in Southern and Northern California) has given all of us moms the encouragement of “doing- it- all” for our own success in the photography industry.

Here are some side shots I took of the group on our workshop with Jenny and a few models…

June 19, 2010 - 11:06 pm Naomi Epstein - How great and supportive! I have to see if Meetup.com has a Chicago meetup group for Portrait Photags.

June 20, 2010 - 12:01 am admin - Yes, check into it!

Hawaii 2010

Our recent trip to Hawaii was more than I could ever ask for.  I left with many beautiful memories that I will always cherish.  Four months ago, I was thrilled to hear the news that Henry’s cousin Jack would be having a destination wedding in Hawaii.  In addition, we were also informed that Henry’s father (who lives in Taiwan) would also be attending.  In all, this was the first time Jayden and I would be meeting him.  And to put the icing on the cake, during our time in Hawaii, Henry and I would be celebrating our 5 year anniversary.  Like I said, it was the more than I could ever ask for.

Our first day in Hawaii, we attended Jack and Lucy’s afternoon tea gathering at the Waikiki Halekulani Hotel.  This was the first of our meeting with Ye Ye (Grandfather in Chinese), it was very emotional and a happy occasion for  everyone.  Jayden warmed up to his Ye Ye so fast, it was a precious moment.  Here they are sharing a walk together hand-in-hand.

Later that evening we all headed down to a very traditional Luau.

Day two, we explored the Island of Oahu with our family members from Taiwan.  We went to visit the following locations:

First stop was the Dole Plantation.  The plantation was so colorful and such a cool place to visit.  It holds over 120 different pineapples and the worlds largest maze.  And let me brag about the pineapple ice-cream… Yummy!!

dole_blogHere are some of our family members from Taiwan. Everyone was so kind and they all took turns holding Jayden.

Along the way we stopped at M. Matsumoto (what a surprise when my mom told me my great grandmothers last name was Matsumoto.  Yes, I have japanese roots) anyway,  the best shaved ice around…. Talk about sugar high on our tour!

DSC_9553_blog

Here as you can tell, Jayden and I were more interested in the shave ice, rather than posing for a family photo!

Our next stop was Laniakea Beach aka Turtle Beach.  What can I say “breathtaking!”  Here I took a few minutes to take out my Nikon and get some great shots with unbelievable colors and clouds in the water and sky.

Here’s the lovely cousins  Catherine and Fred.  They’ll be getting married this September in Taiwan!  I was so happy to meet the both of you, I am so glad we can KIT on Facebook , until we meet again…

Even though I love taking photos with my Nikon D300 camera, I didn’t want to focus the entire trip behind the lens, instead I put my camera down to focus on taking it all in with my family. Here are some “poloroid like” photos I took with my iphone during our time of exploring the Island.  I think it worked out just fine. Besides, handling a stroller, diaper bag, and a toddler running from one event to the next, the pocket phone/camera was so convenient.

One of my best friends Laurie (since elementary school), was on the Island  with her family as well, so we met up one  day with the kiddos at the beach!

Breakfast in Hawaii is fantastic, and when you add a flower to the plate, it makes it just a tad bit more…. Hawaiian!

Tan-Miranda Family

Joe and Liza are the proud parents of Leah (age 5) and Sofia (age 3), two joyful little girls full of personality. Their photoshoot in Laguna Beach was a bittersweet farewell to their time in Orange County. They have since moved on to newer surroundings and adventures in the Sierra Foothills of Northern California.

Also, Dr. Liza Tan and Dr. Erin Park (her photo shoot coming soon) are owners of a new green product line for infants and tots called Lil Honu.  I recently had the pleasure to work with them photographing the new line.  The website is coming soon, so be sure to check out their amazing organic products!

June 15, 2010 - 11:39 am Emiliza Tan - Vanessa! Wow! The photos are amazing! You really captured our little girls...and Joe and I, so well and beautifully. We are so ecstatic to see more of your magic. Looking at the photos brings tears to our eyes of the our time spent in the OC. We had a lot of fun, memorable times and our daughters grew up right before our eyes. Thanks a bunch! Liza
